The Fairhope High School Band has a long-standing tradition of excellence. We perform at every Varsity football game of the season, various parades, special events, and ceremonies. Superior ratings, including best in class awards have been earned in marching band since 1986. The Symphonic Band has been rated superior since 1988 at district and state festivals while yet performing music in a higher classification. Students regularly participate in solo and ensemble, all-state band, all-state jazz band, and various honor bands. We have one of the largest memberships of students in the all-state band and all-state jazz band in the state. Fairhope has had the most members of the all-state jazz band since 1998. The band program has also produced numerous musicians who are now music educators and outstanding professional musicians.
The programs within the Fairhope Band offer students a variety of activities to be involved in. Each performing ensemble strives to meet the highest standards and also prepares students for performance opportunities beyond high school. View the categories below to learn more about the responsibilities and requirements of each ensemble.
Marching Band

He/she must have fulfilled academic requirements per school policy: NO PASS, NO PLAY. Each student must comply with all band rules and regulations. Membership is opened to everyone, but final approval is by the band director. The Marching Band performs at pep rallies, football games, parades, civic functions, special events, marching contests, and festivals. MB membership is a requirement for Concert and Symphonic band (exceptions through director approval only). All students enrolled must be present for any and all performances associated with marching for the entire year.

The student agrees to attend summer rehearsals and is required to attend Band Camp. Exceptions must be approved by the directors in advance. Each member must meet all financial obligations and must attend all rehearsals and performances (contests, parades, and football games).
Concert Bands
To be a member of the two Concert Bands, the student must be enrolled in the proper band period during the spring semester and must meet all financial obligations. Each student must comply with all rules and regulations for that particular organization. The student agrees to attend all rehearsals (including sectionals) and all performances. (Exceptions are through director approval only.) The Symphonic Band is available through audition only, and students must be enrolled in both the fall and spring semesters. The performance dress will be tuxedos and black dresses for both.

Color Guard
The color guard is the visual ensemble of the marching band. It is comprised of members that perform on flag, rifle, saber, and dance. Membership is by audition (Spring) and approval by the band directors and CG instructors. The CG rehearses during fourth block, as well as one rehearsal a week after school. The CG is a section of the marching band. See marching band performance requirements. All Color Guard members are expected to participate in parades whether or not they are in second semester band.
Indoor Percussion and Guard
The Indoor percussion and guard are two separate performing units during the spring semester. Membership is through audition only and is open to all band and guard students. The student agrees to attend all rehearsals and maybe assessed a fee for instruction, travel, etc. Any exceptions to the requirements above must be approved by the directors. Ensemble attire will be decided upon by the director.
