This year’s program, entitled, The Encounter, brings together two well known characters: James Bond and Carmen. Most everyone is familiar with Ian Fleming’s character, James Bond, through the 21 films featuring the secret agent. George Bizet’s, Carmen, is quite possibly the most widely recognized opera in history. It is the story of a Spanish soldier, Jose, who falls in love with a gypsy woman, Carmen, and deserts his regiment to follow her. Because of her infidelity, Jose murders Carmen in a jealous rage.

Incorporating well known themes from both works, we tie the two stories together creating an interesting meeting of characters and a fusion of musical themes. Musical selections will include “Goldeneye” by Bono/The Edge from Goldeneye; “Hovercraft Chase” by David Arnold from Die Another Day; “Intermezzo” from Carmen; “The World Is Not Enough” by Garbage from The World Is Not Enough; “Habanera” from Carmen; “Welcome to Cuba” by David Arnold from Die Another Day; and the “Preludio” theme from Carmen.

We hope you enjoy our 2006 program, The Encounter.
